Cilento - Senerchia

And on we go with the travel tips Cilento. One nice morning, we had a very nice lady at the front desk of the Terme del Tufaro advised to take a detour to Senerchia, which we gladly accepted, of course. Who else but the locals should know because, where are the real attractions? The village is only 10 Senerchia minutes from the hotel at about 600 feet up the slopes of Monte Polveracchio . Tourist interest is the old village, the Borgo Vecchio, who has been abandoned since the earthquake of 1980 and today is a ghost town urromantische.

The post-medieval, historically extremely interesting Senerchia is located on the southeastern foothills of the present village below the ruins of the ancient fortress on a promontory of Monte Croce, with a magnificent view of the Valle del Sele in the east. For three centuries, until 15 Senerchia century was the seat of the noble Norman family Senerchia, who are responsible for the castle. Although its origins go back to the Lombards, the extant structure stems largely from the time of Nicola di Senerchia who in 1271 was appointed by Carlo I of Anjou to the feudal lords. Is particularly well preserved in the northern part of the castle overlooking the Alto Val Sele and di Picentini .

Another highlight of the abandoned village is the Romanesque church of San Michele, which is founded on the 12th Century estimated, partly because the then ruling military Lombards maintained a close relationship with St. Michael. Unfortunately, the 13-century Coming century statue of San Michele Arcangelo, both by the earthquake as well as amateur attempts to restore badly damaged. The inscription "Riccardus Frateius Dominae Senercla" on the tower then refers back to the family Senerchia. Unfortunately, the church was closed because of restoration work, so we could look inside only through the keyhole, but the view makes up for everything.

But otherwise I'm with my son, I think all the houses of the medieval village center inspected the Short had rumstrolchen in each house. As mentioned Senerchia Vecchia was abandoned in 1980 and today you have the opportunity to pry into the not completely destroyed houses stuck to. For an 8-year course that is a fantastic adventure playground (yes, dear mother, I was always there and I take note that there was no danger of collapse). On this page I have selected a few photos of our exploration. We recommend that you visit Senerchia in the afternoon so you have the opportunity to eat on the beautiful terrace of the village restaurants for dinner - for a table full of local, home-cooked meals and wine at the end we paid ridiculous 10 EUR per capita. Even if you are in Campania after eating I feel great everywhere, you should not miss. The family-run small restaurant located at the entrance and can not be missed (there is only one road).

The "main street" of the borgo antico is repaired and leads up to the church. A secluded picnic and picnic area invites you to pause, and a modern playground is set up, interested but not my first dwarf, given the significantly more exciting ruins and the tadpoles in the creek flowing through the village (Vallone di San Michele) So. The cave "Grotta della Prufunnata" and of the municipality and the WWF-powered Valle della Caccia Oasi naturale with the waterfall Cascata Acquabianca this time we have left out, but I'll go down again soon so determined!
